Can you reheat samosas ?

Yes, you can reheat samosas, and the best way to do it is in a preheated oven. This way they turn out crispy like they were originally. You may also microwave them, but they turn out soft and sometimes soggy.

That being said there’s several ways to reheat samosas, and we’ll guide you through each of them. Before we do that there’s a few factors you need to take into account. This will decide the way you’ll want to reheat your samosas, so pay attention !

What to consider before reheating samosas

Though there are many ways to reheat food items, when you have something crispy like a samosa, you’re going to want to make sure your reheating does not ruin the texture. That’s why we suggest keeping the following things in mind before you venture into the world of samosa reheating.

Check the date first!

Of course, you must first consider the age of your samosas. If they’ve been sitting in your fridge for more than a week or so, you’ll want to check them for mold or a funky smell. Even when refrigerated, foods will eventually go bad, especially if they are no longer frozen. So, just give them a whiff and a look to make sure they’re still good.

Crispy or mushy?

Again, if you’re planning on reheating something that was once crispy and crumbly, you may want to recapture that same texture upon reheating. If that’s the case with your samosas, the following methods of reheating will have to be slightly altered. But, don’t worry! We’ll go over exactly how to do it right!

How many do you want?

If you’ve got twenty leftover samosas and you only want to eat ten of them with your family, only reheat ten of them! There’s really only so many times foods should be reheated before they completely change in texture and flavor.

The five best ways to reheat samosas

Okay! So, now that we know a bit more about samosas and what you should consider before reheating them, it is finally time to discuss those methods of reheating. So, buckle up, grab your chilled samosas, and get ready to enjoy them once more!

1. Toss ’em in the microwave (if you don’t mind the mush)

For us, in a pinch, this is a fine method of reheating samosas. Although they will most certainly get mushy if you microwave them on their own, we find that they still taste wonderful and are warmed all the way through. Plus, they are finished and ready to eat in less than 1 minute!

However, if you are completely against soft samosas, you can still use the microwave to heat them up! If your microwave has a grill function, feel free to use that. It will heat them without softening them, providing you with a nice n’ crispy pastry!

2. Heat them in the oven

This is the most preferred way to reheat samosas. Though it takes a bit longer since you must wait for the oven to preheat, tossing your samosas in the oven will certainly allow them to maintain their nice crispy outer layer!

Preheating the oven to about 350F should be just enough of heat to get them going. Simply place them in there for a couple of minutes on each side and remove from the oven carefully.

If you’d like to make sure they are warm enough for your liking, simply cut one open and feel the inside with one of your knuckles. If they’re good, great! Just eat to enjoy! If they’re still cold, throw them back into the oven for another few minutes on each side.

3. Throw them in the frying pan

This method is a bit faster than the oven, but again, you may not get as much of a dry crisp on your samosas.

For this method, simply heat up your favorite frying pan, place your samosas on top, and cover with tin foil. Make sure the foil is just placed on top, not tightly covering the pan; that way, your samosas will still be somewhat crusty!

Once they feel warm enough to you, just take them off the heat and eat!

4. Deep fried samosas

This one will take slightly longer, but it could be a fun thing to try out!

Just fill your pan with vegetable oil and bring it to a boil. Then, carefully place your samosas into the hot oil, making sure not to get burned by the resultant splatters.

After your samosas form a nice, golden and crispy outer layer, just scoop them out, place them on a paper towel, and enjoy!

5. Barbequed samosas

This option is probably best achieved during those warm summer months, since you probably won’t want to haul your barbeque out of the garage in the middle of a snowy winter just to warm up your samosas!

To barbeque them, just get a fire going – we suggest charcoal or wood to get some smoky flavors in there – carefully place them onto the grill, and cook for a couple of minutes on each side. You can even grill them with some veggies in the meantime, just to make extra use of your barbeque materials!

What are samosas, anyway?

Typically connected to India, samosas are most often a savory pastry filled with anything ranging from veggies and rice to chicken, beef, pork, or even fish! Because of their Southeast Asian roots, samosas usually feature some sort of flavorful, powerful spice, whether that’s curry, cumin, clove, cardamom, black pepper, or even cinnamon! Their existence can even be traced all the way back to 9th century Persia!

Samosas are so unique and diverse that the only element that unites them is their triangular shape! There are many versions of meat or vegetable filled pastries out there, from the Mexican empanada to the British Shepherd’s Pie, but if you find a small, triangular flaky pastry, chances are, it is a samosa.

How do you make samosas?

If you are planning to make a samosa from scratch, all you have to do is get some pastry dough, a bit of water, oil, salt, and butter, and whatever you would like to fill it with. If you have time, you can even make the dough yourself if you want to, spicing it with cinnamon or cumin to add even more flavor!

Once you set up the dough, simply brush it with some oil and let it sit for a while until your filling is ready. Feel free to add any kind of vegetable, meat, or starch to your samosas; really make them your own!

Plus, you can even buy or make a scrumptious dipping sauce to go along with them, or try a sprinkle of powdered sugar and cinnamon on top!
