Tasting Notes

Hot Buttered Rum is a rich and creamy beverage with a deep, warming flavor. The dark rum provides a robust, slightly sweet base that is complemented by the buttery, spiced batter. The spices—cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg—add a fragrant and festive aroma, while the vanilla ice cream gives the drink a smooth and indulgent texture. • 8 oz white sugar
  • 8 oz softened unsalted butter

  2. For the drink: Add rum and batter into a heat-safe mug.
  3. Top with boiling (or very hot) water and stir until well combined.
  4. Garnish with grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick, and serve.

A simpler batter you can make on the spot is heavy cream, dark sugar, and your choice of spices. It has much less milkfat (only whatever is in the heavy cream) but it's far easier to drink than just adding a dollop of butter.
