The Mai Tai is a classic tiki cocktail that embodies the spirit of the tropics. It combines white rum, orange curaçao, fresh lime juice, orgeat syrup, and dark rum. This refreshing and flavorful drink is typically served over ice in a rocks glass and garnished with a lime wheel and mint sprig.
Tasting Notes
The Mai Tai offers a balanced and layered taste experience. The white rum provides a clean, smooth base that allows the other flavors to shine. The orange curaçao adds a sweet, citrusy note that complements the tartness of the lime juice, creating a vibrant, tangy profile. The orgeat syrup introduces a subtle almond flavor, adding depth and a hint of sweetness.
The dark rum, floated on top, brings a rich, molasses-like finish that enhances the overall complexity of the drink. This blend of ingredients results in a cocktail that is both refreshing and robust, with each sip offering a harmonious mix of sweet, sour, and slightly nutty flavors, ending with a warm, caramel-like touch from the dark rum.
