The Last Word Cocktail

Sharing is caring!

The Last Word is a classic Prohibition-era cocktail that blends gin, Green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, and lime juice in perfect harmony. With equal parts of each ingredient, it’s a well-balanced drink that offers both a bright, citrusy profile and a complex, herbal undertone. Traditionally served in a coupe glass and garnished with a maraschino cherry, The Last Word is a timeless favorite for cocktail enthusiasts who appreciate a sophisticated yet approachable drink.

Tasting Notes

Upon the first sip, the gin brings a crisp, botanical foundation, immediately complemented by the sharp tang of fresh lime juice. As the flavors develop, the Green Chartreuse introduces a deep, herbaceous layer, with notes of anise, mint, and spices that dance on the palate.

The maraschino liqueur rounds out the drink with a subtle sweetness and a hint of almond-like cherry flavor, balancing the bold herbal and citrus notes with finesse.

As the drink settles, the flavors become more integrated, offering a smooth yet lively finish. The slightly sweet, herbal aftertaste lingers, inviting another sip.

The tartness from the lime, the complex herbal depth of the Chartreuse, and the sweet maraschino create a dynamic and memorable drinking experience, where no single ingredient overpowers the others.

Tips & Tricks

Add a dash of bitters to introduce a more complex, aromatic element.

Infuse the gin with lavender or rosemary for an extra layer of botanical freshness.

Use yellow Chartreuse instead of green for a milder, sweeter herbal flavor.
