What is a Pomegranate Martini?

Pomegranate Martini is a fruity Martini that adds pomegranate juice into the mix. The recipe calls for pomegranate juice but doesn’t state a specific kind (fresh or carton, sweetened or not). Fresh pomegranate juice will always be quite sour and needs a little bit of simple syrup. Meanwhile, carton juice is always sweetened but is still quite sour. It also has the added benefit of being more shelf-stable.

So whichever you use, know that this will mostly be a sour drink, though it does call for a bit of simple syrup.

When is this drink best?

I think the pomegranate Martini works great as a summer cocktail, with a bright red color and a beautiful mix of fruity ingredients. I could see this served at a dinner party, a fancy dinner date, or even at an upscale lounge. Definitely on the smart-casual side of things.

My Thoughts on Pomegranate Martini

I liked the pomegranate Martini, I think it has a really nice balance of sweet and sour. There is some sourness and flavor from the pomegranate juice (I used carton), and the lime juice (fresh), but it’s balanced by the sweetness from the simple syrup and the triple sec. The entire mix of orange, pomegranate, and lime flavors is also quite nice.

There’s an alcohol burn at the end, since this is a potent drink but it’s also something you sip on so be careful!

Notes, substitutes, and tips

The recipe is built to make this a sweet and sour drink, but if you need more sweetness add more simple syrup or consider using grenadine instead of pomegranate juice.

A bit of expressed orange peel might work very nicely in this.
